3,2,1…the ball drops and out come the funny glasses, kisses, hugs, horns, and toasts. Happy New Year!
We stay up crazy late with our loved ones to see in the new year. One thing I learned about from a dear friend last New Year’s Eve was the tradition of “praying in” the New Year. As a Christian for over 25 years, I can’t believe I had never heard of or thought of this. After spending New Year’s Eve with our friends last year, we have decided to adopt their tradition.
You may do it however fits your family or friends. Must watch the ball drop at midnight? Pray in the New Year at 11:50 or 12:01. Sit in a circle and popcorn pray for whatever is on your heart for 2015. You could also take prayer requests and have the leader of your family (or several leaders if you’re in a group of families) pray on behalf of everyone. If you are out, invite those with you to pray with you. It doesn’t matter how you go about it, just do it to bless your family and invite the Lord into the next year of your life.
Are you at a loss as to what to pray for? Here are a few ideas:
Your nation, leaders, and military members
Peace in your home
Healthy relationships–with spouse, siblings, friends, co-workers
Specific healing needs
A stronger faith and God-honoring home
Specific goals and resolutions
Health and safety
Your homeschool–what you should be studying, mom/dad as teacher, willing hearts and minds, diligence
To know how to best parent your children the way they need to be parented
There is a plethora of things to pray about as you enter 2015. Pray as the Spirit leads you. Have your best year yet! God is in control!
What will you pray for?
