If you are looking for easy-to-learn AND easy-to-teach curriculum for reading or spelling, you’ll be excited to connect with All About Learning Press at 2:1. They strive to take the struggle out of learning! They want both you and your children to know you have succeeded on your language arts journey.

Founded by homeschool mom Marie Rippel, AALP curriculum takes a loving “failure is not an option” approach to learning. AALP uses a multi-sensory approach, which includes “open and go” lesson plans and lifetime support.

If you have a child with dyslexia, a processing disorder, or who is a struggling reader, you must watch this short video from Marie Rippel – it will inspire you!

Knock Down Your Idols

By Contributing Writer: Shannon Cimato

We women have many opportunities to replace God with idols in our lives.

We often idolize popular bloggers, writers, or speakers. Even things like couponing, reading, television, vacationing, and parenting styles can become idols. These are not bad things, but anything that takes our focus from God can be an idol.

“It is the normal state of the human heart to try to build its identity around something besides God.” Soren Kierkegaard

I have been guilty of making my children into little idols. They have consumed much of my time and spirit. I become obsessive about their homeschooling, activities, character, and special needs. As a mom, I am responsible for their physical, mental, and spiritual well being. Children are wonderful gifts from God, but it is possible to pour too much of ourselves into them.

When prayer, Bible study, husband, and sleep take a back seat, it is time to reevaluate.

How do we keep our children (or anything else) from becoming our idols?

Get our focus back on the Lord. We must spend time in prayer and the Word.

Pray over our children. This can help release us from some of the pressure we may feel to make our kids happy and perfect. Pray over their present and future.

Trust God. I believe a core issue in making idols of our children is a lack of trust in God. If we trust Him to lead us and our children, we wouldn’t spend so much time worrying and stressing. It goes back to the issue of fear. When we fear, we lose trust and depend on ourselves to control our lives and our children’s lives.

Once we hand over the fear to God and make Him our top priority, we can start to put things back in order.

Instead of pouring myself into “things of this world” such as spending hours online perusing curriculum and ideas or running kids to a million activities, I will spend time nurturing my husband and children in a healthy way.

There is a balance between building a relationship and “worshipping” when it comes to our family.

How do you knock down the idols in your life?
